From tea boy to Record Producer, Phil Harding’s career in the Music Industry spans more than 30 years right through recording The Clash to producing East 17 and Boyzone.
PWL – From The Factory Floor is a detailed and expertly researched memoir, which will take you on a roller coaster journey through the heyday of the PWL Hit Factory Empire. Here Phil spent his time in the ‘Bunker’ studio using state-of-the-art equipment to mix the records of artists such as Dead or Alive, Princess, Mel & Kim, Rick Astley, Bananarama, Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, The Pet Shop Boys, Jesus Jones and many more.
Phil lifts the lid on life ‘below stairs’ at the PWL Studios - the myriad of artists who passed through its doors and the colourful, zany team and backroom staff that kept the Hit Factory wheels turning.
This book also contains an in-depth technical appendix, which sets out for the reader a definitive description and history of music technology and recording equipment as used at PWL Studios during the 1980s. A thorough explanation and insight is also given into the SAW/PWL recording and mixing techniques.
Phil Harding is now a regular speaker and guest lecturer at Universities and Colleges around the UK and is currently Vice-Chairman of the Music Producers Guild (MPG) and Chairman of the Joint Audio and Media Education Services (JAMES).
